Following the death of or female tiger at the beginning of the year, her partner, the male tiger known as "Avigdor" (his native name was Capalla), also passed away in April, aged 16.5 years.
We believe that he was the oldest Sumatran male tiger in captivity in the world!
In July, the Zoo was delighted to receive, as part of the EAZA Conservation Program, a female tiger named Jakarta from the Attica Zoo in Greece.
She is now adapting to life in Jerusalem and working with her keepers and the training methods used here, which were not familiar to her.
We hope that she will be able to be seen in the tiger exhibit soon and we are looking forward to receiving a male tiger in the near future and progressing with the breeding program.
Have a healthy winter!
