Dear Sumatran tiger supporters,
As we reported to you last time, following the sad passing of our male Sumatran tiger, Avigdor, we are awaiting a new male to continue this breeding and conservation program.
Our request for a new male has been submitted to the international committee (administered by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria under its Endangered Species Program (EEP)) who monitor the international studbook and decide - based on genetic suitability, available facilities and transfer arrangements – which animals will be moved between participating institutions. This process, which includes collecting surveys and genetic data from participating institutions, is still ongoing and we hope to have some firm news in our next report about when we can hope to receive a new male tiger.
In the meantime, we are doing our best to keep Hannah’s spirits up by providing her with a range of enrichment activities to keep her active and healthy. Watch the videos below to see how we do this.
Thank you for your continued support of this program which is trying to ensure the future of the Sumatran tiger species (only around 400 remain).
