Saving Three Babies in Distress in Munigi

By Ferdinand | COORDINATOR

1. Context and Rationale

In Munigi, Nyiragongo territory in eastern DRC, many families live in extreme poverty with very limited access to healthcare. Newborns especially premature babies and multiple births are highly vulnerable to severe malnutrition.

Amani’s triplets are in a critical condition: severe underweight, lack of therapeutic nutrition, and no consistent medical follow-up. Without urgent intervention, their survival is at immediate risk.

2. Project Objective

The main objective is to save the lives of these three infants by providing emergency nutritional and medical care, while strengthening the family’s ability to sustain them during the most critical early months.

3. Activities Implemented and Planned

Since the project started:

  • Initial community mobilization has been conducted
  • Emergency food support has been provided through early donations
  • The $60 raised so far has been used to purchase flour for nutritional porridge, ensuring an immediate response

Planned activities include:

  • Distribution of therapeutic milk and enriched porridge
  • Provision of essential medicines
  • Regular medical monitoring by local health workers
  • Distribution of hygiene kits and infant clothing
  • Support and guidance for the mother on proper infant feeding

We are currently identifying trainers and community learners to strengthen broader malnutrition prevention efforts. Full project implementation is scheduled to begin in November 2025.

4. Expected Results

  • Stabilization and improvement of the babies’ nutritional status
  • Significant reduction in the risk of infant mortality
  • Strengthened immunity and early development
  • Increased capacity of the mother to provide proper care
  • Contribution to stronger community responses to child malnutrition

5. Project Budget

The total project budget is estimated at $7,500, covering:

  • Therapeutic nutrition
  • Essential healthcare
  • Monitoring and follow-up
  • Hygiene kits and infant clothing

To date, $60 has been raised, already making a concrete impact by enabling an initial food intervention.

6. Partnership and Mobilization

Through collaboration with GlobalGiving, the project benefits from international visibility and a trusted fundraising platform. This partnership increases confidence that the funding goal will be reached and the project successfully implemented.

7. Transparency and Accountability

All funds are used transparently and directly allocated to the urgent needs of the children. Careful monitoring ensures effectiveness and accountability to donors.

8. Acknowledgment

We sincerely thank everyone who has already contributed. Your support, no matter the amount, has made the first life-saving actions possible.

9. Call for Support

Today, three lives depend on collective action. Every contribution matters and can make the difference between life and death.

We warmly invite all donors, partners, and supporters:
join this humanitarian effort and help give these children a chance to survive.

Together, with your support and this strong collaboration, we are confident that this goal will be achieved and that these three babies will have the chance to grow, live, and hope for a better future.
