SAVE A MOTHER & CHILD FROM MALNUTRITION IN UGANDA

SUMMARY

This is July to september report for a five years program that contributes to the reduction of acute malnutrition among children 5-59 moths, pregnant and breast feeding mothers in Kibuku District through training 1070 women in nutrition basic feeding practices, provision of nutritious food to children with acute malnutrition, train mothers on production of nutritious foods, provide treatment to malnourished children, provide deworming medication during pregnancy, Pregnant women receiving iron and folic acid supplementation.

ACHIEVEMENT FOR THE QUARTER:

• 43 pregnant and breastfeeding mothers trained in nutrition basic feeding practices

• Visited 39 households to assess children with malnutrition

• 54 pregnant women received iron and folic acid supplements.

• 41 pregnant and breastfeeding women received vegetable seeds for production

• 32 malnourished children received treatment

• 180 children dewormed

CHALLENGES:

• Grass root communities continue to lacks knowledge and skill in nutrition basic feeding practices despite the availably of local foods
• Inadequate funding for the project visa- vis high number of beneficiaries
• Nutrition literature is written in English and there is need to translate in local languages

Recommendation:

The project greatly require funding to support vulnerable communities in Kibuku District. Funding the project will contribute to the reduced mortality and morbidity of children and women and enhance livelihood among vulnerable households. Your continued support will be highly appreciated.

• VIsted 49 households to assess children with malnutrition

• 76 pregnant women received iron and folic acid supplements.

• 45 pregnant and breastfeeding women received vegetable seeds for production

• 31 malnourished children received treatment

• 150 children dewormed

CHALLENGES:

• Grass root communities lacks knowledge and skill in nutrition basic feeding practices despite the availably of local foods
• Limited funding for the project visa- vis high number of beneficiaries
• High illiteracy rate among the community.
• Nutrition literature IS written in English and there is need to translate in local languages
