Summary

The project supports the housing restoration and re-building shelters among the families whose houses were fully submerged and or sunk by the water flooding. The availability of shelter will improve the mental health and general well-being of families supported. The children from such families will be able to attend school in peace as there will be great convenience due to enhanced social family fabrics. The project enhances participation of its beneficiaries at all stages including planning.

Challenge

Over 100 families have been adversely affected by the water flooding that has covered most of 'Nanga-Kapuothe' Unit within Nyalenda 'B' Ward in Kisumu County. Most of these families have been evacuated to two of the nearby schools after the flood either submerged or sunk their mad houses. The two evacuation centers include St. VitalisNanga Primary school and Victory Christian Children's. the families need to have a better homes to go back to once the centres are closed hence the need to rebuild.

Solution

Most of these families lack where to put up when the camps are finally closed and are uncertain of where to go to and this project would really give them a place to call home for the 50 families including their children. They will now enjoy a good living condition in their new shelter hence no more cold hours at night in the camps. The children will be saved from the diseases like pneumonia and malaria characterized with the poor state of the camps where they stay right now.

Long-Term Impact

This project will benefit babies, children, youth, women and the elderly who have been pushed out of their homes by the water flooding. The project will benefit a total of 250 people from 50 families. The residents in the neighborhood will benefit due to peace and tranquility when everybody is able to access an average shelter. The schools will achieve high pupil/student school retention and attendance rates.
