12,137 Animals Helped in 2018

By Alejandro Vasquez | Project Manager

Dears Supporters,

When we read the quarterly reports of the amazing job of Coco’s Animal Welfare we are impressed by the number of animals helped, but when we have a recap of the year it really makes you realize not only of the big impact done, but the real problem the overpopulation of street dogs and cats is.

During this year, Coco’s Animal Welfare in collaboration with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), local NGO’s, vets, rescuers, local volunteers and GVI Mexico / The GVI Trust made a great impact helping 12,137 Animals.

From the 12,137 Animals helped 6,306 were sterilized, 4,672 were done at the Coco’s Animal Welfare Clinic and 1,074 done in the First Free Sterilization Clinic during August and 560 sterilizations during the remote campaigns held.

There were 1,888 rabies vaccines doses applied in a week by Cocos and IFAW personnel during the National Campaign joining efforts with other organizations, vets and government.

1,571 cats and 1089 dogs were helped during their recovery and follow up consultations on the rescuer’s support campaign. 80 cats and 72 dogs rescued and supported by their Cachitos and Coco’s Kitten funds.

1,131 Animals were helped on their outreach program with the communities that coco’s Animal Welfare works with.

This Year during December we received the last GVI volunteer that supported Cocos Animal Welfare in Playa del Carmen, but our help is far for being done. During our work with Coco’s Animal Welfare in the last 5 years, we have seen the organization grow by the support of stakeholders local and international, you can keep helping them in their animal welfare campaign.

In total this year the number of animals helped were 12,137, a significant number that reflects the hard work and support from international organizations, local NGO’s, volunteers, donors and stakeholders.

The Sustainable Development Goals impacted by this program are the SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 15: Life on Land and SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals.

It will contribute to SDG 3: Health and Well-being by keeping rabies out of the region with vaccine prevention and by diminishing the number of stray dogs and cats that can carry diseases and plagues to human communities.

It will contribute to SDG 15: Life on Land by diminishing the number of cats and dogs in the streets that can kill and hunt local species, like birds, lizards, possums and other small mammals.

It will contribute to SDG 17: Partnership for the goals by promoting the collaboration between local rescuers, shelters, clinics, government and other NGO´s.

Thank you so much for all the support over 2018 - we had a great year and cant wait to share another one with you!

With Gratitude,

Mexico Animal Welfare
