Transforming Lives: SCEF Learning Hub Quarterly Impact Report (July - Sept 2025)

By Solomon Abbey | Child Rights Advocate

Project Update: Literacy as a Pathway to Freedom

The festive season may have ended, but the fight for a brighter future continues for street-connected children in Accra. During this past quarter (July – September 2025), the SCEF Learning Hub relentlessly pursued its mission to transform lives, proving that literacy and confidence are the keys to unlocking opportunity.

We are turning vulnerable children into eloquent leaders, and your generosity made this measurable impact possible.

Our Impact in Action: Measurable Results

Your support translated directly into growth, confidence, and academic success for over 120 children.

1. Inspiring Leaders Through Literacy (SCEF Reads) We brought the boardroom to the classroom! Influential professionals like Senyo Tettehgah (Luminous Fund), Marie Françoise Dusimina (Amahoro Coalition), and Bless Carol Amoo (Plan International) served as guest readers. These sessions were not just about reading; they were about inspiration. Children dramatically improved their reading fluency, comprehension, and public speaking, seeing firsthand that literacy is the pathway to leadership and professional excellence.

2. Cultivating Confidence and Civic Participation This quarter, our children practiced democracy! Candidates for Library and Compound Prefects read their manifestos aloud before their peers. This practical exercise significantly boosted their confidence and persuasive communication skills, providing them with a real-world understanding of civic duty and leadership responsibility.

3. Academic Rivalry & Community Strength We organized a dynamic Inter-School Reading and Spelling Competition involving John Wesley, New Order, and Derby Avenue Schools. This event served as a platform for learners to showcase remarkable improvements in pronunciation and spelling accuracy, strengthening team spirit and reinforcing SCEF’s literacy advocacy across the wider community.

4. The Bottom Line: Noticeable Change Over 120 children actively participated in our Hub activities and after-school programs. Teachers and social workers observed noticeable, concrete improvements in vocabulary, pronunciation, confidence, and focus among frequent participants. We are not just giving out books; we are transforming mindsets.

We Need More Hands: Appeal for Enhanced Impact

Our success has created a new, urgent need: we must scale this proven model to reach more children. Every child in Accra deserves access to this empowering environment.

We are appealing for your renewed support to take the SCEF Learning Hub to the next level.

Invest in lasting change, beyond a single season. Your donation doesn't just fund a book; it funds the spark of ambition, the confidence to speak, and the skills needed to escape the streets forever.

Donate today and help us empower the next generation of confident, literate leaders.
