It gives us immense joy to share with you the progress of our scholarship program—an initiative that is transforming the lives of girls with disabilities and opening the doors to higher education for those who once believed such dreams were beyond their reach.

For many of these young women, aspirations of becoming teachers, doctors, engineers, journalists, or lawyers often remain unspoken. Coming from extremely poor financial backgrounds, they face not only economic hardship but also deep-rooted social stigma. Families and communities frequently underestimate their abilities, and these girls are denied opportunities simply because of their disability and their circumstances.

Your support has changed that reality.

Today, we are proud to share the inspiring story of Rekha, a shining example of courage and determination.Rekha was born with congenital blindness. For her parents, who were daily-wage farm laborers, her disability felt like a burden they were unequipped to carry. They believed that a blind girl could neither study nor work. Yet, from childhood, Rekha sparkled with intelligence, warmth, and confidence. She loved speaking with people, making new friends, and listening to music—her world was full of possibilities, even when others could not see them.

Despite many obstacles, she completed her 12th grade in a nearby village. Her dream was clear: she wanted to become a lawyer and fight for the rights of people with disabilities. But financial hardship stood firmly in her way. Her family could not afford college fees, hostel expenses, or books. The path to higher education seemed impossible.

Then, hope arrived.

Rekha learned about our Scholarship Program through a friend and decided to apply. She was selected—and that moment changed her life. She secured admission to College in Ahmedabad and has proudly completed her first year with 55% marks.

This scholarship has not only supported her education—it has restored her confidence, dignity, and belief in her own future. Rekha now walks with her head high, determined to build a career where she can uplift others like herself. She expresses her heartfelt gratitude to every donor whose kindness made her dream come alive.

There are many more girls like Rekha—bright, ambitious, and full of potential—waiting for someone to believe in them.

It gives us immense joy to share the first progress update of our Scholarship Program for Girls with Disabilities. Education is one of the most powerful tools for empowerment—but for girls with disabilities, access to education often remains a distant dream. With your support, we are working to change that—one life at a time. Today, we want to introduce you to Dhruti, a bright and determined young girl whose story is a true testament to courage and resilience. Dhruti lost her vision when she was just 8 months old. But that wasn’t the only loss she faced—her father abandoned the family upon learning about her blindness. Her mother, however, stood strong. Despite being left alone, she took full responsibility for raising Dhruti and giving her every opportunity to grow. At 9 months old, Dhruti was brought to the Early Intervention Centre at BPA. That was the beginning of a remarkable journey. She received training in orientation and mobility, daily living skills, and gradually learned to move independently, identify objects, and groom herself. Soon, she began learning Braille and reading and writing in English, Hindi, and Gujarati. She was later enrolled in a mainstream school. It wasn’t easy—she was often denied participation in school events, but Dhruti refused to be discouraged. She fought for her space and eventually took part in school programs, winning not only prizes but also the hearts of many. She passed her higher secondary exams with good marks and aspired to pursue college education. But once again, challenges surfaced. Admission into St. Xavier’s College was tough, and financial burdens became a huge barrier—expenses for tuition, transport, and assistive technology were simply beyond her mother’s reach. That’s when Dhruti applied for support through BPA’s Scholarship Program. She was selected, and with your support, we provided her with an Orbit Braille refresher device, a laptop, and helped cover her college fees. Today, Dhruti is a confident young woman. She recently scored 55% in her exams and continues to chase her dream of becoming a teacher.
