IN 2022 BonZeb kicked off its Haitian Educational Scholarship program by awarding scholarships to 12 schools, while assisting 160 students from Kindergarten to University. BonZeb's plan is to make these donations annually, to make sure each student can complete their education without interruption due to financial issues at home. To do this BonZeb needs to raise an additional $10,000 per year. This past year half that amount was raised by the generosity of our donors. Please consider become one.
The problem BonZeb is addressing is the lack of educational opportunities for Haiti children to attend school. This general lack of education adds to the growing crisis of poverty and unemployment. Poverty, illiteracy and poor health are linked together within Haiti. In the crowded slums of Port au Prince, the capital of Haiti over 47% of adults cannot read or write. Illiteracy rates are even higher in the rural areas of Haiti.
BonZeb's project will not solve this problem, but it can make a difference the lives of those students it can help. With our contacts with Notre Dame Universities of Haiti and the Salesian Mission we are able to impact students throughout Haiti. Working with other smaller rural schools also allows us to impact more students and teachers with the needed supplies and materials to assist their effort in educating the future leaders of Haiti.
The long term impact will be in the number of students that successfully complete their education all the way through university. Having an educated populace will allow for stronger leadership in government, business and general management of the country.
