She Was Once at Risk of Dropping Out. Now She’s Changing Lives.
I want to tell you about someone who reminds me exactly why we do this work.
Her name is Molly.
When I met Molly, she was just a little girl growing up in the Acholi Quarter after her family fled the war in Northern Uganda. Her mother worked in a stone quarry, then later rolling paper beads when Project Have Hope began, and still sold vegetables and boiled maize on the side just to keep food on the table.
Then Molly’s father died while she was still in primary school.
Like so many children here, Molly was on the brink of leaving school — not because she didn’t want to learn, but because school fees were simply too much. And when a child drops out, that door usually closes forever.
Because of sponsors like you, we were able to step in and cover Molly’s school fees.
Molly loved school. Even as a young girl she told us, “I wanted to change my family’s story from worse to better.” And she did.
With continued sponsorship, Molly finished Senior 4 and went on to study early childhood development. During her internship at a local school, she impressed the headmaster so much that when she came back looking for a job, he told her, “I don’t even need to interview you.”
Today, Molly has been teaching for three years. She spends her days wrangling a joyful classroom of three- and four-year-olds and shaping young lives with patience, calm, and confidence.
But here’s the part that gets me every time:
In 2022, her mother returned to the North. Molly’s two older siblings are married, so now Molly is responsible for her two younger sisters. And because she has a steady job, both of her sisters are able to stay in school.
One sponsored child became a teacher.
One education became three.
One act of generosity changed an entire family tree.
This is what your support makes possible.
Education doesn’t just change one life. It creates ripple effects that last for generations.
Thank you for believing in these kids. Thank you for believing in stories like Molly’s. And thank you for helping us turn “at risk” into “thriving.”
With so much gratitude,
Karen
