I'm raising money for free school meals, gardens and skills training for 400 mainly girl street children and youths in the West Coast region of Gambia. Most of them were made to engage in street trading in order to feed at home where they faced child trafficking, girl marriage, teenage pregnancy etc. Since inception Grace Foundation has succeeded in rescuing over 300 children from the streets and providing them with basic education and free school meals.
The pervasive poverty situation in the Gambia has seen many children that are supposed to be in schools now sent to the streets to trade in order to feed at home. Many Children in my community have to work to eat instead of going to school. It has also led to the recent migration of young Gambians embarking on perilous journeys to Europe through the Sea via Libya.
We provide 400 school children in several schools of the Greater Banjul Area with a quality daily meal. We support 45% of our poorest students for their education cost and offer vocational training to vulnerable youths. As a sustainable strategy, we have created a school farm run by GF volunteers and staff. The farm products supply the feeding program and in case, serve as an income source to back up GF services. Our next project is to access donated bikes for easing students transportation.
Students passing out of school or training would have received a qualitative education for them to realize their full potentials in life. It will be a key to lifting them and their families out of poverty while aiding their mental development and providing them the platform from which to become productive members of the community. Cooking and Agriculture practices also function as vocational training for students and local volunteers.
