Every child deserves the fuel to learn. This project provides one nutritious, fortified meal daily for 500 pupils in a low-income primary school in Niger State for an academic year. By addressing hunger, we improve focus, attendance, and health, giving children a fair chance to succeed. Meals are prepared by trained local cooks using locally sourced ingredients, ensuring both quality and community involvement.
Hunger keeps children from learning, and many in Niger State attend school without breakfast. Malnutrition stunts growth, reduces concentration, and increases absenteeism. For some pupils, this school meal is their only reliable daily food, motivating families to send them to class. By feeding these children, we unlock their potential, support healthy development, and strengthen the community's educational outcomes.
We will establish a school kitchen, hire and train local women as cooks, and source nutritious ingredients in bulk. Each day, children will receive fortified porridge or balanced meals rich in carbohydrates and protein. We will also create a school garden to supplement meals and teach farming skills, fostering sustainability, community participation, and long-term self-sufficiency for both students and local farmers.
Consistent nutrition boosts academic performance, attendance, and health for 500 children, giving them a foundation for lifelong success. Graduating with better focus and energy, these children are more likely to remain in school and reach their potential. The project also generates income for local cooks, strengthens the local food supply chain, and demonstrates a scalable model to fight hunger and improve education in similar low-income communities.
