FROM TRAINING TO THE CLASSROOM: YOUNG EDUCATORS TRANSFORM SCHOOLS ACROSS SPAIN
As we have mentioned on previous occasions, the School of Opportunities provides academic guidance for students aged 10 to 17 who are at risk of social exclusion, while also training young educators to join the ExE Program as effective teachers and advocates for educational equity.
After completing the School of Opportunities, ExE Program participants are equipped to become effective teachers and are assigned to schools in Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia. These schools face significant socio-economic challenges, with many students coming from migrant or low-income families and limited access to higher education. In this context, participants take on a vital role as agents of change, working to ensure that every child receives a quality education.
During the 2024–2025 school year, ExE Program participants were placed in a total of 41 schools, directly impacting 7,200 students across Spain. The program involved 90 young professionals who took on teaching roles in schools facing significant social challenges. These participants demonstrated notable growth not only in pedagogical skills but also in leadership abilities.
Students benefited academically as well, with standardized test scores in core subjects (Mathematics, Language, English, Science, and Social Studies) increasing by 17%. Additionally, the percentage of students who passed these tests after previously failing rose by 31%. Schools hosting ExE participants also saw improvements in key indicators, including a 50% reduction in school conflict compared to previous cycles. Beyond academic outcomes, the socio-emotional development of students was strengthened through personalized attention and continuous support.
Thanks to the support of our donors, the ExE Program continues to provide high-quality academic support, mentor young teachers, and create meaningful change in schools where it is most needed. Looking ahead, the program aims to expand its reach, further develop the skills of young educators, and ensure that every student, regardless of their background, has access to an excellent education.
The achievements of the 2024–2025 school year clearly demonstrate the transformative power of the ExE Program. None of this would be possible without the generous support of our donors, who make it possible for young teachers to develop their potential and for students to access high-quality education. As we look to the future, the ExE Program will continue to expand its impact, nurture the next generation of educators, and foster educational equity across Spain. Together, we are shaping a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
