My name is Zawadi (not her real name)
I lost both my parents when i was 10 and went to live with my aunt in south kivu.
I lived with her for 4 years but she never gave me any money while my friends at school had money. So, i started stealing in the house.
When she found out, she was so mad and i got scared. I had to leave.
I took a boat and went to Goma in North kivu where i started working as a maid. It was an okay job as I was getting paid.
Unfortunately, i stole a few things again and they found out. They put me in jail.
My life had no meaning anymore, i was in prison where we didn’t get food or good treatment.
I one day came accross this NGO (Children’s Voice) that was giving vocational training to young people in prison. I took part in it and learned hairdressing.
They also did everything to get me out of prison. However, i didn’t want to get out because i had no where to go, i was scared my aunt would not want me back.
Children’s Voice did everything in their power to talk to my aunt and to make sure i would be safe to go back to hers.
Now i am ready to go live with my aunt and start working as a hairdresser. I have learned my lesson and want to live an honnest life.
