Yvan , 14 years old said: It was terrifying. The flame, the lava fire behind us, the destroyed houses! The eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano on 22 May 2021 terrified us!
We had to leave. To flee, to walk night and day, 30 kilometers on foot to be safe.
We were exhausted. We were hungry. We had no place to sleep. I was carrying my little brother on my back. He was crying. We had to stop for a rest. Then continue. We suffered too much. Now we are lucky. we have received water, some food and small temporary shelter. Even if we still being in the camp, it is better tan to be out side.
Children's Voice helped children separated from their parents, the sick and the hungry. Play areas, clothes and shoes, psychosocial support and family reunification. More than 85 children were reunified, 132 were psychologically supported.
We are very grateful to our donors for this much needed assistance to the victims of the Nyiragongo volcano eruption, especially children and women
