School Support for 130 orphan children-Addis Ababa

This is the project report of Yengat Birhan Charity Organization on school support for 150 Orphan children from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Report period from June – August, 2024. 

Introduction

Yengat Birhan Charity organization is a local non-governmental and non-profit organization that works on children education, women empowerment and health since 2016 here under is some of our performed activities on this reporting period.

On this reporting period, we could perform different activities as we planned under the school support project. We provided tutorial class two days a week during the month of June. As usual we provided tutorial class with snack since the students took tutorial class after school. 

We provide the following support for a total of 150 on the school children in this reporting period:

• Tutorial class, it was given totally by our organization with the hired par time teacher from privet school, by voluntaries and by our staff too.
• The tutorial classes focused on English, Mathematics and Ethic. It was organized with the collaboration of Tesfa Birhan governmental Secondary school as we made agreement with them to use the class room as it is near to our organization and for the children too village too.
• The Tutorial class was ran as planned on every Tuesday and Thursday and the other service which we provide was sport for our football team on every Saturday.  
• Tutorial classes was provided with snack as usual from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, including snack time.
• Regarding health-related support, we provided hygiene items for each child like Soap 250 mg 3-piece, Hair oil 125 ml for children and Sanitary pad for 47 girls as the quarterly plan. Additionally, we provided health education on topics hypertension and diabetics with refreshment tea and coffee for children’s family while they come for taking hygiene items.
•  We keep also purchased different food items like milk powder for one student who live with the HIV virus, additionally for two students we provided additional food support and we keep buying some food items weekly and paying electricity bills regularly for two students. 
• We providing school registration fee from Birr 600 to Birr 1000 for 131 school children out of 151 school children since 20 students removed from the project due to the following reason:  poor tutorial class attendance, who failed two times in one grade and who moved out of Addis Ababa.  
• We provided life skill training for school children by grouping in to four classes, and use 3 half day in a week for a total of one month, on the month of July and children were happy while attending the training.
• We could provide vocational training for one student because she did not want to attend for the 3^rd time in grade 8 as she failed and it will help to get job for her income to sustain her and her father life.
