Major Achievements
Educational Support:
Tutorials were paused this quarter as we are in the process of revising our manual to focus on life skills and character development trainings. During this period, we have also been recruiting teachers and preparing the updated manual. Additionally, we provided educational materials support, and the school registration fees for the new academic year were covered.
Nutrition Support:
To enhance food security and improve nutritional intake, each child and their family received one liter of cooking oil and 5 kilograms of wheat flour every other month for all chidren . In addition, during the December distribution, we provided an extra 1,000 birr to support the purchase of chicken for the Christmas holiday.
Health and Hygiene Support:
To support hygiene and well-being, students received hygiene kits—including three bars of 250ml laundry soap and 250 ml of hair oil—every two months. Forty-four teenage girls were provided with sanitary pads, and health education sessions were conducted for children and families to promote good hygiene practices. In addition, the health insurance of all families was renewed in November to ensure continued access to medical services.
Sanitation and Cleanliness:
Liquid soap and hand sanitizers were provided to students and staff before snack time to encourage proper hygiene practices and maintain a clean, healthy environment in classrooms and counseling areas.
Pyhcosocial/Discipleship Support:
This quarter, we continued our focused efforts to support students facing academic or behavioral challenges. Through one-on-one and small group counseling sessions, our team worked closely with each child to identify the underlying causes of their struggles, provide personalized guidance and encouragement, and help them set achievable goals for improvement. These sessions also emphasized building self-confidence and fostering positive study habits. By addressing both academic and emotional needs, we are helping students develop resilience and a renewed sense of purpose as they progress in their education.
Challenges Faced
The organization faced significant challenges this quarter due to rising inflation, increasing costs, and limited financial resources, operating under a reduced budget following the conclusion of a donor partnership. This quarter, reporting our budget cuts and submitting a revised budget to the government proved challenging due to complex communication and approval processes. While strengthened community partnerships and strategic planning have helped mitigate some difficulties, expanding and diversifying funding sources remains a critical priority.
