Science for all

The last three months included 6 weeks of summer school holidays, but we still delivered 1,512 science kits to schools, which equates to 122,000 experiments completed by 5-12 year old students across New Zealand.

In October 2025 the New Zealand Government released a new draft science curriculum which means our design team is hard at work ensuring our resource kits align to the new content. We have also started work on a brand new library of kits for schools that teach the indigenous Maori curriculum. These kits will be developed from a Maori perspective which is an exciting development.

In the last three months we have delivered 3,120 science kits to schools, which equates to 253,000 experiments completed by 5-12 year old students across New Zealand. This was our busiest quarter in the 12 year history of our existence!

August is a big month for the House of Science team, with our annual staff conference held in the sunny Western Bay of Plenty. This year we enjoyed three days of learning, challenges and strategic planning. Our goal is always to reach every 5-12 year old student in New Zealand with our engaging, hands-on science resource kits and empower primary school teachers to deliver great science lessons every week, in every classroom, everywhere. With a third of the country’s schools regularly using our resources there is some way to go but we are up for this task.

Our resource development team are currently working on a new topic to add to the library, called ‘Things with Wings’. It’s another excellent kit that looks at the natural and man-made world of flight. Feedback from our test schools has been very positive and we look forward to rolling this kit out to all our 21 branches soon. The development of this resource was made possible with funding from the New Zealand Aviation Federation.
