As we find ourselves in the early weeks of March, we at the St. Croix Environmental Association are beginning to turn our planning towards SEA’s 2023 summer programs. In July, we are excited to offer the second year of the Environmental Changemakers Corps, or ECC for short. This program was developed, planned, and implemented by SEA’s amazing Education Coordinator, Olivia Walton. The goal of this three-week program is to give participants an opportunity to experience the many ways that they can make a difference for the environment: from sustainable farming, to wildlife and marine biology, to art, to advocacy, and more. Empowering the youth is our goal and we are excited to continue to build this program around that goal.
This June we will also be offering our SEA Creatures Program. This long running program will bring environmental education to summer camps throughout St. Croix. SEA will either visit the camp’s base location and engage the students there, or we will meet campers for a field trip at locations such as the Southgate Coastal Reserve, Salt River, Altona Lagoon, or even the Frederiksted Waterfront. Campers then work with SEA’s educator to learn about their environment, how it affects them, and how they can affect and improve it!
We look forward to giving you the next update when our summer programs are underway and we can share our successes! In the meantime, we are offering field trips for school classes and will be holding the 30th Annual EcoFair at the St. George Village Botanical Gardens on April 19. Thank you for your support for these programs – we could not do it without you!
