SEA's Summer Programs are Heating Up!

SEA’s summer programs are heating up! As soon as the school year was over, we were off and running with field trips scheduled with camps nearly every day. The heat hasn’t stopped the students from engaging in the variety of outdoor activities and learning that we offer. Our SEA Creatures program is designed to work with existing summer programs to provide them with experiential environmental learning. Our overall goal is to teach them about how they affect the environment and how the environment affects them. This summer we have taught snorkeling and Fish ID, gone on nature walks, learned about the strong connection between Crucian culture and nature, honed observational skills through interactive scavenger hunts, and learned about some specific aspects of the local environment such as mangroves, sea turtles, and birds. The SEA Creatures program continues through the beginning of July, at which point we shift our focus to our Environmental Changemaker’s Camp, where 14-17 years old learn about the variety of environmental work being done around St. Croix and how they can get involved and make a difference.

In addition to our Education Coordinator’s salary, the funding that you have provided has gone towards transportation for camps and to support a summer intern. Many camps have smaller budgets this year that do not support off-site travel. Your donations have ensured that these campers don’t miss out. Our summer intern has been an invaluable asset to our programs by providing an extra pair of hands and eyes, and helping to develop programs that creatively engage students.

We are so grateful for your support of these programs. We have had many adults that were enrolled in our summer programs as children “back in the day” that have told us that it made a difference in their lives and how they view the environment. Your donations have allowed us to continue to offer these programs year after year. Thank you!
