This summer, our Non-Profit helped Hampaté Bâ School organize a special summer school program for 50 of our girl scholarship students that we are supporting. We convinced the parents to let their daughters out of the house and into a world of confidence during their summer break.
This was a wonderful opportunity for the girls who actually enjoyed attending classes.
The curriculum during the two week session covered a variety of topics including life skills, gender, leadership, human rights, and financial education. Also because of the girls' low literacy skills, teachers were asked to draw more pictures and use more symbols when writing on the blackboard. They also used simple language and made sure that everything they said was understood.
This summer school program not only gave the girls more knowledge and self confidence, but it also familiarized them with participatory techniques such as group discussion, brainstorming, small group work, educational games, and storytelling.
Our meetings were a lot of fun. I learned a lot and would like to come back next summer, said Samira, a 7th grader.
We discussed subjects that really interest me.Now I know what empowerment means. I feel stronger and more confident. I can now stand up to my brother if he treats me unfairly, explained a very happy and smiling Fatima.
Life is not easy when you are poor and a girl in Niger. What awaits you is early marriage, not 12 years of schooling. The lucky girls might get six years of low quality education and that is it. This is the reason why our charity is supporting 60 girls in order to enhance the quality of their lives and offer them a brighter future. With your help, we want to prevent the daily grind of poverty force girls to sacrifice their right to education and hope for a healthier and wealthier life.
We all know educating girls means a world of more educated women who tend to be healthier, earn more income, have fewer children, and provide better health care and education to their own children, all of which can lift their families and communities out of poverty.
Please help us to help these underprivileged girls have a right to a quality education and therefore the possibility for a brighter future. We can do it with your donations.
Be part of the change ! We really thank you for your generosity!
