By Cora Sayre | Project Leader
Dear Friend,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project providing life-saving seeds and farm inputs to very poor farming families. One of the major problems in farming with marginalized farmers is that farm inputs are often difficult to procure and are expensive. The practice of using hybrid seeds makes if difficult for farmers to use the seeds second cycle because they no longer contain the characteristics of the parent. Our approach is to use indigenous seed varieties which can be re-used from parent stocks next planting season. These seeds are popular vegetables such as ladys fingers, tomato, eggplant, squash and variety of root crops. Then we make our own organic fertilizer from waste around the farm mainly chicken dung, goat and cow dung and mix this with shredded grasses and weeds. The organic fertilizer we distribute to our farmers with a small fee. This reporting period we were able to distribute a total of 200 bags organic fertilizer.
Hoping for your continuing support.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora
