Dragon fruit promotion
Dear Friend,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous donation to our project providing vegetable and tree crop seeds to poor farming families. This project is very important with farmers unable to procure high-quality seeds in order to increase the production in their farms. This reporting period we focus our effort in the growing and promotion of dragon fruit as a high-valued crop wherein farmers will be able to increase their incomes. Dragon fruit plant is one of our choice because it belongs to the cactus family and it produces fruit that is sought after here and price at about US Dollars per kilo is very high. We were able to convince an initial of 42 farmers to start dragon fruit production in their farms. Later on we will form them into a dragon fruit growers association in order for them to access services from the government.
Hoping for your continuing support.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora

Need vegetable seeds
Dear Friend,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project providing vegetable seeds and gardening inputs like organic fertilizer to very poor farming families. This project is very urgent because of repeated calamities happening and the inability of local people to feed themselves. Just recently we were visited by tropical storm Falcon wrecking destruction to communities as houses and farms are flooded. Our solution to provide vegetable seeds is very innovative in the sense that within a short period, those affected can already harvest and have food and income from their gardens. We were able to provide support to 300 families during this reporting period but the need is indeed very great and our resources are low. We badly need as much support as you can provide.
Hoping for your kindness and generosity.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora Sayre

Producing organic fertilizer

Organic fertilizer
Dear Friend,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project providing life-saving seeds and farm inputs to very poor farming families. One of the major problems in farming with marginalized farmers is that farm inputs are often difficult to procure and are expensive. The practice of using hybrid seeds makes if difficult for farmers to use the seeds second cycle because they no longer contain the characteristics of the parent. Our approach is to use indigenous seed varieties which can be re-used from parent stocks next planting season. These seeds are popular vegetables such as ladys fingers, tomato, eggplant, squash and variety of root crops. Then we make our own organic fertilizer from waste around the farm mainly chicken dung, goat and cow dung and mix this with shredded grasses and weeds. The organic fertilizer we distribute to our farmers with a small fee. This reporting period we were able to distribute a total of 200 bags organic fertilizer.
Hoping for your continuing support.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora
