Dear Donors, & Well Wishers,

Greetings!!

We are very happy to share impact story of Ms. Sangurta. She is  26 yrs old, came to our Cornea OPD in Blind People's Association Managed Porecha Eye Hospital at Bareja with complaints of no vision in her right eye for 5 years. She had a history of Right eye infection 5 years back for which she took multiple treatments. Finally, she came to our hospital at Bareja for further diagnosis and consultation. . On examination right eye leucomatous corneal opacity was found. After detailed examination counselling and treatment options patient got ready for right eye Optical Penetrating Keratoplasty, which was done successfully. The patient is happy with the vision as she can resume her day today activity. Thanks to voice of SAP for the support to get her back vision again. Many many congratulations to Dr Sumeet and BPA hospital team for the great dedication  BPA has been relying to on other eye banks to receive cornea which delay the surgery procedure. Consiidering this BPA has decided to set up an eye bank in the hospital.

Blindness is a major cause of concern around the world today. According to WHO, after cataract and glaucoma, blindness is mostly caused by corneal impairments. Interestingly, in India, corneal conditions are the most common cause (37.5%) of blindness in 0 to 49-year olds and the second most common cause (7.4%) in >50-year olds, as per the recent Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) survey. Most of these impairments are curable, especially through eye donation, which refers to donating one’s eyes after death. Just like any other body organ, the cornea of the eye can also be donated after death which will render vision to the blind. Eye donation is important because it can help restore sight to people with a variety of conditions and improve their quality of life. However, due to lack of awareness, social or religious reserves, etc., eye donation is yet to get its due importance in our country. With a population of over 1.42 billion and an estimated 90% of global corneal blindness attributed to developing nations, the estimated need in India is escalating every year. India needs to reach a minimum collection of 200,000 tissues to perform 100,000 corneal transplants annually. Thus, to raise awareness among the masses on eye donation, the Seeing is Believing Project has taken the bold step to set up an Eye Bank. Eye banks play a very important role in these procedures. BPA Porecha Eye Hospital has all ultra-modern equipment and facilities for eye collection in the Eye bank.

The team has undergone rigorous training to collect the eye, restore, and transport. BPA Porecha Eye Hospital now has an Eye Bank to collect eye donations. The project team has started working to create awareness on eye donations. The local people at village level have different myths related to eye donations. It is a very challenging tasks to break the myths and bring attitudinal change among the people. However, we have been receiving a very good response. We are very thankful to you for your continuous support and encouragement, which motivates us to initiate new ventures to help people.

In addition to this, we have conducted 36 outreach eye camps that have served around 2360 patients, and 367 patients were provided free cataract surgeries. We had an OPD of 4587 patients, and 587 patients were provided free cataract surgeries. We are very happy to share that every year we conduct 15000 free cataract surgeries. We look forward to your support for Keratoplasty/cornea surgeries which is very expensive, poor patients can not afford it. We will conduct free Keratoplasty/cornea surgeries with your support.

We request you to share this noble cause with your friends, and family members, and motivate them to join hands for the noble cause. Lets spread joy and happiness and love in the Festival of Lights. We wish you a very Happy Diwali. May this festival of lights bring happiness, joy, love, prosperity, success and good health.

We are very thankful to you for your generous support and commitment to the cause.

Thanking you
With Best Wishes
