During 1st of October 2014 to 31st of December 2014 a total number of 3465 patients had undergone surgery at Navalbhai and Hiraba Eye Hospital, An unit of Blind People Association, Bareja at which 3120 had undergone surgery for cataract which is the most leading cause of blindness in India.
During the reporting period (1st of October 2014 to 31st of December 2014), 92 outreach programs had been organized in remote locations of Gujarat where 11240 patients were provided treatment at their doorstep and among them 2451 patients were identified as cataract and 985 undergone surgeries at Bareja Hospital.
Mega eye checkup camps were organized at Vatak, Modasa with the support of Samata Vikash Charitable Trust as a part of Sabarkantha Cataract Free Campaign; and at Isanpur, Dholka, Bavala, Vatva, Bagodara with the support of Arrez Khambata Benevolent Trust as a part of Save Sight Ahmedabad campaign.
New laundry unit started at the hospital premises in order to provide sterile clothes to doctors, assisting staffs and patients.
Dr. Bhushan Punani, Executive Secretary of the organization participated in Strategic Planning meeting of Vision 2020 held at Pune on 18th November, 2014. The Vision 2020 has set up a National Consortium for promoting services of low vision at national level. The next meeting of the envisaged consortium was held in Delhi on 20th March, 2015. This meeting was attended was representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Orbis International, Sight Savers, CBM and other leading international organizations.
Thus BPA is a part of National Consortium on Vision 2020 and thus eye hospital will contribute towards promotion of low vision services - a great achievement indeed.
Mr. Dharmedra Jena, Manager, Eye Hospital participated in a national level meeting organized by CBM at Bhopal during 17th to 20th March, 2015 on Project Cycle Management Approach which will provide new professional insight into project management.
