World Sight Day is celebrated on 2nd Thursday of October every year. This year World Sight Day fell on 14th October. The Gujarat State Blindness Control Programme gives Awards to different eye hospitals in different categories of achievements. The BPA Navalbhai & Hiraba Eye Hospital at Bareja has been conferred the "BEST ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR HIGHEST EYE SURGERIES IN THE DISTRICT OF AHMEDABAD " by the Department of Health, Government of Gujarat. The hospital conducted 5500 cataract surgeries in rural areas in the District in 2009-2010. The credit for this Award goes to Mr. Dharmendrakumar Jena, the enthusiastic and extremely hard working Manager of the hospital. Mr. Jena has a basic degree in public health and an MBA in the Management of NGO from the Entrepreneurship Development Institute. He has developed a whole team of doctors and paramedical staff who are devoted to the prevention of blindness. This Award is one more feather in the BPA cap. BPA's commitment to prevention of blindness is as strong as its commitment to rehabilitation of incurable blind persons.
