This project provides school fees, stationery and uniforms to 200 girls' victims of child marriage and those who are exposed to the risk of getting into one to enroll back into schools in Harare, Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe is in political & economic chaos & families are struggling to survive & pay school fees for their children. There has been an increase of deaths from illnesses, leading to many child headed households. The dropout rates in schools is very high, hence the prevalence of child marriage particularly with girls, due to the cultural pressures & expectations put on them. Access to secondary education is very limited & often deserving girls never make it that far. We bridge that gap.
WAP identifies and support young underprivileged girls' victims of child marriage and school dropouts who would never be able to accomplish their secondary level education, but have incredible potential. We see them thriving through the education they receive in schools and dreams becoming a reality. we are seeing incredible decline in early child marriage cases.
WAP has managed to change lives of many families, more than 500 over the past 8 years. Seeing families lifted out of poverty by empowering 1 of their children. We see these girls support their families either through entrepreneurial means or their stipends. We believe these young girls will make a huge impact on the future of their families, communities and Zimbabwe as nation.
