GEPaN plans to buy uniforms and school back-pack full of learning essentials to 250 girls from the marginalized community of Longido. Take them to school away from their vulnerability.
Child marriages are rampant in Longido District. Children as young as 9 years old are forced into early marriages and many times to older men. These children have no idea of the responsibilities of motherhood. Those who have had a chance of joining primary school drop out in the early years of primary school to forced marriages in exchange of property in terms of livestock.
Train young men (known as Maasai Ilmorran/Moran) and old men who are community key decision- makers on child rights to be part of the force that condemns child marriages. Equip and empower 50 families with modern beekeeping knowledge and skills and after provide them with a complete start-up kit (comprising of hives, wax sheet, bee suits, gloves, smoker, hive tool, extractor, bee brush, strainer and uncapping folk) as an alternative to child forced marriages.
After 250 girls are taken to school and trained on their rights, they will be empowered and later on empower other girls creating a platform for trainers of trainees and Prevent them from Early Forced Marriages. This will create an informed community on child rights and build on the community livelihood and for girls to take up leadership roles.
