The kids at Githens Middle School are continuing to learn and grow during their afterschool programs. Above is a picture of Adam showing the kids different plants they will be looking for during their hike.
We'll share more about the kids next week but we wanted to share some great news about outside funding we received to help lower our Global Giving project goal of $12,164 down to $9,664!
The Durham Public School System has pledged $2,000 toward the project because Dr. Julie Spencer, Area Superintendent for Middle Schools, was very excited about the project and thought the school system could find some funding to help. School board member, Nancy Cox, was instrumental in getting us in touch with Dr. Spencer and we are glad she did!
Parents at Githens Middle School have contributed $500 towards the program by paying the nominal fee we charge to parents that can afford to pay for the program. This fee helps us to defray the actual cost of providing the program and allows us to offer more scholarships to those students that can't afford the extra money for the program. Thank you parents!!
Since the goal has been reduced, so has the amount left to raise in order to continue the afterschool program throughout the 2013-2014 school year! We only have $3,483 left to raise!!
Wednesday, October 23rd is Bonus Day for our region (North & South America & the Caribbean). Please ask your friends and family to consider a donation to our Earth Connectors afterschool program. Any donation between $25 & $1,000 made online Wednesday, October 23rd beginning at 9:01AM, will be matched 30%. That means a donation of $100 will actually raise $130!! In order for us to get matching funds, the donation should be made between 9:01 and 9:05 before matching funds run out. There is a limited amount of funding available for the matching gifts so these funds will run out quickly.
