Achievers Ghana plans to sponsor 350 girls in slum communities back to school this year, to provide free education for girls who come from the deprived and poorest sections of societies in slum communities in Ghana. This project gives girls in slum communities in Ghana access to better education and also extra curriculum activities geared towards empowering a girl child.
In a slum, where most people live below the poverty line, girls and women education takes the back seat. Poverty, underdevelopment, mass illiteracy, ignorance, urban backwardness and conservatism cause a majority of girls in slums to be deprived of their basic right to education. Various other social problems such as child marriage, trafficking and discrimination leads toward the undermining of girl's right to Education. Limited access to education means many are stuck in a cycle of poverty.
Using a variety of educational approaches to build knowledge, skills, and self-confidence. Girls of basic school age are favored to maximize long-term impact. Using technology to advocate, connect, and increase awareness of key issues affecting girls and also to inspire, educate and equip a girl child in slum communities with the computing skills and providing girls in the slums with important leadership and mentoring opportunities by meeting and hearing from role models that girls can relate.
To reverse the relentless trend of poverty, disease and marginalization of women in the slums in Ghana. To improve maternal health and lower incidences of HIV/AIDS in the slum communities. To promote universal primary education in the slum communities. To ensure women in key positions - economically, socially and politically from slum communities. To ensure gender equality in slum communities.
