Challenge

The devastation of Cyclone Idai has affected and left over 16000 children orphaned, homeless and devastated socially and mentally. A recent Rapid Joint Education Needs Assessment (RJENA) led by Ministry of Primary and Secondary education found that psycho-social support is of greatest need. This project will affect more than 100 underprivileged in Chimanimani, Zimbabwe together with empowering their guardians so that they have the ability to support the beneficiaries post donor assistance.

Solution

The aftermath of Cyclone Idai will affect children socially, economically and mentally for many years to come and by sending a child to school we hope to break the vicious cycle of poverty through education. The parents and guardians will be organized in groups of ten and be assisted financially to start sustainable income generating projects. Being organised in groups will facilitate information sharing and knowledge exchange within the members and provide the much needed social cohesion.

Long-Term Impact

The project will educate 100 guardians and support them financially to start sustainable income generating projects, which will give them an opportunity to support for their children education independently. Through empowering guardians with skills and resources, we will break the cycle of poverty in many families from Chimanimani, Zimbabwe.
