TEACHERS are the BACKBONE to EDUCATE GIRLS in Peru

CW girls, Peru staff, administration and Calif support team have not skipped a beat over the difficult last two years of Covid and CW home-school. We have received and continue to receive many blessings. We are ready now to return to the classroom.                                     Thank you all!      

All of Latin America just celebrated a bittersweet national holiday, 'Day of the Dead,' where families get together around the graves to beautify the site, sing favorite songs together, recite poetry, share special food and tell stories together of their loved ones who have passed on. So many lives have been taken by Covid that the entire country seemed to fill the cemeteries together to honor the lives they lived. 

Our families are accustomed to the many hardships that come for the people in a developing country and balance them with moments of joy, music and dancing in colorful costumes. A modest Holloween last week provided some laughter as our CW students created home made costumes with their siblings and showed them off to the neighbor children. Photos were sent to their teachers and close friends and laughter was shared. They are still required to stay home as vaccines slowly come to the Peruvian Andes. We are headed for the home stretch to close out the 2021 home-school year and make ready to return to the classroom next March 2022 finally and for real. The ministry of education came to the school to inspect all of our classrooms to be sure we are ready by their standards around curriculum and records. We are enthusiastically ready.

The vaccines have been arriving to Peru in batches that are given out immediately to all those lined up to receive them until gone - the remainder in line must wait for the next shipment. 

We are still delivering emergency food baskets to our 97 families who still depend on it. More jobs will become available as tourism opens up to international travelers before the holidays and help Peruvian quality of life rise up again. 

The fundraiser tuition school Maria is ready to open when we get the green light to begin registering new students. March 2022 will be the beginning of recovery for everyone in Peru - especially schools.

A few snapshots for you below: CW girls in classrooms and Cafeteria at the school; emergency food delivery; our beautiful CW school created for poor Indigenous Girls (tuition free), and the new (tuition based) Maria school. We are ready to return to our school and to finally enroll new students into our (fundraiser) Maria school to ensure longevity of CW for generations to come.

CW's future when 'Maria Tuition School' classes are filled, will be self-supporting. CoVid upset our plans to open Maria school in 2020, but we are grateful that our CW large extended family is well. We plan to begin enrolling new students in March 2022 when the school year begins again.

NOTE: Cusco IS vaccinating now. Children are expected to return to school slowly for the next school year that begins March 2022. We are all super excited. Thank you all for hanging in there with us. We have a little way to go yet but the impact of our work is self evident in the success of our girls...some at the university today.
