After 3.5 years of CW focus on our post-covid recharge and inability to visit our school in Cusco, I made a decision to just get on the plane and all would be well. It was - and so much more.
A Cusco visit is open to all again..please come visit the school and meet our girls. They love visitors.
It was a wonderful visit to our Chicuchas Wasi School for girls. I was greeted with a cheerful welcome and 110 hugs from all the little arms wrapped around me. Certainly a huge energy lift after the global news of late. To my surprise Ruth and team had been preparing for my visit with a surprise 80 birthday celebration and also our 37 year anniversary celebration for Chicuchas wasi. Every classroom had prepared a dance in colorful homemade costumes, and parents dressed up in their traditional red costumes and danced also with me and for me with great joy and laughter from this happy crowd of CW family. Celebration was felt the entire 11 days of my trip until exhaustion and filled my heart to bursting with their love.
A big hug from a grown student of CW. I met Milagros the day she was born to a man who worked with us. He and his wife were saddened by the birth of a girl. They would not name her and asked me to name her. "Miracle " was the name that came to mind. She became one of the first girls in our early school and stayed in school until she finished high school. There was no parental support for her to continue after that. Today she is a mother and came up to me to hug me and tell me she was doing ok. Ruth kept me up to date -her daughter is 9 years old and in school. -Rae
Please meet Gloria, she joined CW at 18 years of age, finished her teacher education and is a lead teacher/Admin. assistant and an artist seen here.
