Learn how we celebrate Peru's 194 years of independence.
Every year on July 28th all schools celebrate Peru's Independence from Spain in a way that brings the community together.
This year our school invited the parents to be involved in the school celebration where mothers cooked and danced with their daughters. The school assigned each classroom to represent a rural region and come up with a typical food and dance costume of that region. The students and their mothers were excited to put together this event, it gave the families an opportunity to be included in something fun and feel part of their daughters school.
Mothers enjoyed preparing regional dances and food that represented each region. Mothers took pride in cooking for the event, something they know how to do well. Below you see mothers and their daughters sharing a dance.

Below our girls are dancing a coastal dance called Peru Negro in the typical costumes of these dances as parents look on. During the celebration our class mothers prepare food from other regions, prepare costumes and the dances to honor the indigenous communities of Peru. The proceeds from selling the food goes to buy something for the school.
Chicuchas Wasi students honor their Peru free from Spanish rule every July 28th.
