Chicuchas Wasi 50%MATCH Day & Celebrates 30 years

CW 1st 1998 kindergarten class w/13 little girls

CW celebrates 30 years of excellence PLUS a GG 50% MATCH Day on Wednesday July 12, 2017...

CW School for Forgotten Rural Girls began with 13 little girls 20 years ago.

But first, in 1987 Chicuchas Wasi opened an emergency shelter for abandoned children and that project lasted 10 years. We learned from the abandoned children living on the streets of Cusco that all of them had uneducated and unprepared mothers unable to provide for their children when abandoned by their male provider.  you see here to convince mothers the value of educating girls and preparing them for a better future and economic survival. Here Ruth and Gloria are with the first kindergarten class that opened the door.

Last week the California CW Board celebrated with local friends and supporters our 30 years of success. Later at the school in Cusco, Peru the school will celebrate the official 30 year celebration of our growth and achievements with CW School Administrator, Ruth Uribe, is the driving force moving the school forward with Gloria Vera at her side.

Below see the supportive California Board of Directors today and the line up of the CW School Teachers and staff with Ruth.

We have had 4 empowered graduating classes move on to high school. Only two girls have been forced to quit high school. Almost all girls who have graduated are members of the CW Alumnae Sisterhood who meet monthly with Ruth to share their stories, problems and successes and to mentor and encourage CW girls who will graduate to public high school but are afraid they won't be accepted.

WHY YOUR DONATIONS MATTER - How do we use your donations?

Chicuchas Wasi School for Girls Project; Programs and Activities

                    http://www.chicuchaswasi.org/school-programs/

CW curriculum provides the following classes and programs:

* Nutritious daily hot meal program is provided and is essential for every student to enable concentration and focus on studies and to maintain healthy bodies and minds. For many this is often their only daily meal

* Health supplements with daily iron, vitamins, basic meds for cold, fever, stomach aches and tooth pain; X-rays if needed

* Quality primary Academic education including: Hygiene, Art, Quechua, Spanish and expanded English language classes

* Interactive teaching style utilizing theatrical presentations to teach Inca history such as Inti Raymi, where students recycle materials for their costumes and research history to create the script to play the historical roles

* School uniforms, textbooks, school supplies

* Dental care and Oral Hygiene instruction for all 115 students

* Safe transportation in the CW school bus to deliver girls to and from school. Attendance is 98% due to the free transportation for our families unable to pay public bus fares. It is unsafe for vulnerable young girls to ride the public bus alone or to walk

* Students stand out in their bright red uniforms at community events, parades, cultural celebrations, and demonstrations celebrating Girls Education and Girls Human Rights

* CW girls march in the streets of Cusco each year to protest Violence against Women and Girls and to educate the community on the value of women

* CW Psychologist led parents workshops educate about responsible parenting and teach mothers how to better protect their daughters using role-play, and improved communication during domestic conflict to deter domestic violence.

* CW Psychologist led teachers and staff workshops about girl's/women's rights and instruction on managing student behavior and CW protocol when suspecting child abuse.

* CW students have one-on-one meetings as well as group classes with the Psychologist to address and receive guidance on serious problems at home.

*The CW Monthly mother’s group discusses and encourages women's rights, how to vote, finding their own voice, job training resources, using better communication to achieve better outcomes and cooperating in groups to identify and solve their problems together.

* CW administration and teachers receive ongoing interactive and innovative training in CW methods of teaching (role play, etc.) Teachers meet weekly with Administration to keep updates and concerns well managed.

CW school receives girls at 4 years of age and they continue for 8 years under the guidance of CW’s unique academic curriculum that will prepare and educate them for a better future. The CW primary school year 2017 has enrolled 115 students. The intentional ripple effect of CW school for girls is the increased awareness of the value of the female in the family, community and its reach to the siblings of our students. We reinforce the value of girl’s education in the mother’s program to assure their enrollment in the future. CW school makes a public presence of our school for girls. We reach many girls still not allowed to go to school, opening the conversation with them and their mothers about education for their daughters.

CW girls and staff are grateful for your continued donations.

“There are more than 500 million adolescent girls living in the developing world today. Every one of them can potentially help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty, with ripple effects multiplying across her society.” – Anthony Lake, Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
