Exam Season Inspires Determination

Dear Pakistan Project Supporters,

Warm summer greetings from all of us at Girls Education International!

As we reach the midpoint of the year, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued generosity and partnership. Because of you, girls in Pakistan are overcoming barriers to education, staying focused on their studies, and working toward brighter futures, despite the challenges they face.

As annual exams approach, many girls remain deeply dedicated to their studies, even while facing significant obstacles, such as the rising cost of transportation and teacher shortages. Two students, Sidra and Yasmeen, have secure and consistent transportation with the support of Girls Ed, but shared that the shortage of qualified subject teachers in their rural school often leaves them struggling to fully understand key concepts:

“We are focusing on our studies as exams are near, but subject teachers are often unavailable. Sometimes other teachers teach subjects outside their expertise, and our concepts remain unclear.”

Community volunteers and students work together to find practical solutions to these challenges and dedicated teachers have implemented weekly practice exams to help students prepare for their exams, but Sidra and Yasmeen worry for their classmates. They shared, “Due to increased fuel prices, many girls are unable to attend college regularly. We are worried about how our classmates will manage their exams.”

This highlights the impact of your support. With transportation worries removed, the girls can fully focus on their studies, feeling confident and ready to excel on exam day. We will let you know how all the girls do on their exams in our next report.

Eman's Journey: Defying the Odds Through Education

As we move into the new season, we remain committed to bringing you regular updates on the remarkable impact your support makes possible.

Every month, we witness stories of courage, resilience, and transformation. Stories that remind us why this work matters. Today, we’re honored to share Eman’s journey, a powerful example of how access to education can change not just one life, but the mindset of an entire community.

Eman comes from a modest household where her parents prioritized her brother’s education, buying him a bicycle to attend school five kilometers away. When Eman passed her Secondary School Certificate matric exams and expressed her wish to join college (Grades 11–12), her father refused due to the cost of transportation.

Determined to continue her studies, Eman reached out to her former principal, who guided her to Bedar, our partner in Pakistan. With support from Bedari, she was enrolled in Grade 11 and received books, a uniform, a sweater and monthly travel support. Eman thrived and is currently studying in Grade 12!

She now dreams of becoming a writer to challenge the mindset that invests only in sons. Eman believes education and expression can transform thinking and give girls like her the power to choose their future.

A Season of Growth: 65 Girls Learning and Dreaming

Dear Pakistan Project Supporters,

We’re delighted to share the latest updates from Bedari’s Girls’ Education Project in District Chakwal, Pakistan, supported by Girls Education International.

From July to September 2025, your support continued to provide monthly transportation to girls in the villages of Begal, Marath, Chhabri, and Chabbar, ensuring that distance and safety never stand in the way of learning.

This quarter, 22 girls graduated after completing their Grade 10 matriculation exams and 24 new students joined. That brings the total number of girls supported to 65—43 in Grades 6–10 and 22 in Grades 11–12.

Beyond academics, we’ve seen beautiful growth in the girls’ confidence and collaboration. Group study circles have become common—as Zainab shared, "Some topics are very hard to understand alone, so now we sit together and solve problems. It feels good—we study and also share our feelings and challenges. It helps us emotionally and academically."

We also celebrated stories like Bisma’s, who, after losing her father at a young age, feared her education would end when her mother could no longer support her school fees. Her courage led her to reach out to Bedari—and today she proudly attends Government Degree College Bhagwal. “That was the beginning of a beautiful new journey,” she says.

The road isn't without challenges. During the peanut harvesting season, some girls' school attendance dropped as they joined their families in agricultural work. Yet, despite challenges like this one, Bedari reports that requests for educational support are on the rise—reminding us that every girl that goes to school is part of changing minds about the value of education.
