Mr Luis and Mrs Mayra are from Ciudad Vieja Sacatepéquez. They both didn’t have the opportunity to study because their parents didn’t have the economical resources to give them a good education.
Nowadays Mr Luis works in a factory making sacks. He works very hard to support his children and wife, but the money he earns isn´t enough for them to make a living.
They have two children Mayra and Christian. Mayra is four years old. She suffers from malnutrition and she is being treated now. Sometimes they don´t have any money for the children´s food.
Christian has suffered a lot because he is handicapped. He was born with epilepsy. His parents have to travel almost every day to the city for Manolo to receive his therapies. Sometimes, they don´t have money to take him to the therapies. Christian dreams about going to school and running around every day with other children, that is why he works so hard on his therapies.
They have a very old house that doesn’t protect them from the rain or the cold weather. When we talked to them about the possibility of building a house for their family they were very happy because their lives would improve so much and they would get back the smile that they once had.
