Helping achild who doesn't hear to change his life

By Jose Arevalo | Benefactor Services Director

Scheel Center

He is a young man of 15 years old, he was born in Santa Rosa. He presents the problem of total loss of hearing in his left ear since the age of 8 years.  In 2013 his parents took him for a medical examination, but the diagnostic wasn’t very hopeful because a hearing device couldn’t be installed because he does not have the needed skin tissue to place it.

This young man was born into a very poor conditions, he never had his three meals each day, unfortunately neither the mother nor the father could attend school reason why finding a job has been hard for them.  The father is a day laborer in a coffee farm and the mother is a housekeeper.  He has a younger brother who is 12 years old.  The coffee farm provides them a little piece of land for them to live.  As the possibilities of the family allows them, they have made a small room with metal tin and some wood, which does not have the basic services that are water and electricity.

Starting this year, Asociación Nuestros Ahijados has been supporting this young man with his studies.  He now in 7th grade at the Scheel Center. We working to improve his life. At the Scheel Center he can receive medical, physiological and dental care as part of our services. He is doing well at school, according to his teachers; he could do better but because of his hearing issue it is difficult.  He is a very shy boy and tells that he would like to be a National Police Officer, so he can be able to support all those people who are victims of the violence.  His brother is also receiving support from us and is studying Stage III at the Scheel Center.

The young man is working hard every day to improve and to have a better future, even though his hearing problems he never quits and comes to school every day.  He is very thankful for all the help he is receiving from Asociación Nuestros Ahijados through the Scheel Center School.  Please help us help him reach his dreams.
