Rural Nursery Schools and ASAP

ASAP opened the first rural nursery school in the village of Kofila in 2006, then we opened one in 2009 in Oualana, in Nefrelaye in 2010, one in Kouekouesso in 2012 and one in Fina in 2014.

For the school year 2017-2018 there are 262 children in those 5 villages.

Some comments of parents: "I'm proud of my daughter because she speaks French better than her big brother who is in second year of primary school. She asks each morning to wash before going to school. "

“My son is communicating with me. He asks me what am I going to do in the day. Before that he would never come to me with questions.”

Comment from a teacher of primary school: “The students who have attended the nursery school makes it easier for us because they already know the basis: group discipline, numbers, letters, read and speak French.”

Since the opening of the first nursery school in 2006, we have seen the very strong impact of the school not only on the awakening of the children attending the school, but also on some changes of mentality of the whole village.

The structural costs of the school are covered by the sponsors and by the parents. Parents contribute with 7 US$ and 3kg of beans / year / child, sponsors contribution is 100 US$ / year / child.

Each family has many children in school (preschool, primary and secondary). This is a lot of costs for the parents. Often the fees for the nursery school children are paid by the mothers who seems to be more convinced of the benefits of this school than the fathers.

ASAP is planning to open a new rural nursery school in 2018. We are still looking at 9.000 US$ to be able to build the infrastructure of this school.

We believe that this project is one of the best project ASAP has realized in the past 20 years.
