The nursery schools we are supporting in rural villages are for children of 5 years old. They stay in the nursrey school for one year before going to primary school.
The personnel of the school is made of one director and 2 or 3 support staff (called "petites mamans"). Most of the personnel are women.
In this report we would like to let you go through the program of one day of those children.
A school day at a nursery school:
The school opened at 7:30. The children are received by the support staff. The class starts at 8:00.
From 8:00 to 10:00 there are lectures. For activities linked with learning colors, shapes, numbers,.... children are devided in groups. Children can then be helped individually if needed. For other activities such as learning a song, a poem the whole class participates.
At 10:00 the children received a snack which changes each day. A short pause is made and the children can then play outside.
From 10:00 to 12:00 there are lecture and outside activities such has running, dancing.
The school day is finsihed at 12:00 at which time children go back home to their mothers.
Some numbers of school year 2016-2017:
This school year we have 5 nursery schools running with a total of 275 children.
Objectives of the nursery school:
- open the mind of children and prepare them to attend primary school
- help mothers who do not have to watch their 5 years old
- improve the health and growth of the children attending the school (one additional meal, brushing teeth, learning about hygiene)
Early learning is very important and we would like to thank you for the support you give to make this possible.
