Educate Girls in Zambia on Gender Equity

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We hope this update finds you well. As always, it is a joy to share news from the ground with those of you who make our work possible. Term 1 of 2026 has been a period of remarkable growth, learning, and community building for Chance4all's gender equity programs in Zambia. When schools reopened in January, our learners returned energized and eager; and thanks to your generous support, we were ready for them with an ambitious term ahead.

One of the highlights of this term was a two-day capacity-building workshop for our teaching team, held on April 1, and led by our Director and education specialist, Mart Zinnemers. This intensive training focused on pedagogical techniques, inclusive classroom management, and trauma-informed teaching practices. We believe deeply that investing in our teachers is one of the most powerful ways to invest in our girls. When educators are skilled, empathetic, and confident, they create classroom environments where every learner — especially girls — feels safe enough to raise her hand, ask questions, and participate fully. The workshop was met with tremendous enthusiasm from our team, and we are already seeing its positive effects in daily classroom interactions.

Alongside teacher development, our lifeskills workshops on menstrual health and sexual reproductive health continued across partner schools. These sessions provide safe, stigmafree spaces for girls (and boys) to learn about their bodies, mental health, child protection, and sustainable menstrual products like menstrual cups and reusable pads. One student shared that she now feels confident discussing her health openly; this is a powerful reminder of how transformative these conversations can be.

We also held our annual parent workshop, strengthening the circle of support around our learners. Parents and guardians engaged in discussions on children’s rights, curriculum updates, mental health, and the importance of keeping girls in school. When families are informed and involved, girls thrive.

On April 7, we joined the global community in marking World Health Day, reinforcing the message that good health is essential for every child's growth and academic success. For Chance4all, this day carried special significance. Our gender equity mission is built on the understanding that when girls are healthy, informed, and supported, they stay in school and thrive. Health and education are not separate goals, they are deeply intertwined, and our programs reflect that truth every day.

Thanks to your generosity, this project has raised $94,879 of its $150,000 goal. Every contribution helps us train teachers, deliver lifechanging workshops, and support girls with the knowledge and confidence they need to shape their futures.

As we close the year, we are proud to share the progress made in strengthening gender equity and educational access for the girls, and the boys who learn alongside them at Chance4All. When Term Three began in September, our learners returned to school equipped with books, stationery, and essential supplies provided through this project. These simple tools made a meaningful difference: attendance improved, confidence grew, and students were able to participate fully in class without the stress of lacking materials.

This quarter also included the last powerful lifeskills workshops for students from several partner schools. Sessions covered:

• menstrual hygiene management,
• sexual and reproductive health,
• mental health,
• drug abuse prevention, and
• climate change education.

While the menstrual hygiene session focused on girls, boys were also included, helping build a more informed and respectful learning community. One of our Grade 9 learners shared that she “finally understood her body and felt less afraid to ask questions” a reminder of how transformative safe and accurate information can be.

Beyond the classroom, students engaged in environmental learning during the Chifwema Arboretum Spring Festival and enjoyed a joyful lunch outing during the directors’ visit. This time together strengthened bonds between directors, staff, and students, while also supporting learners’ emotional wellbeing. At our tuition center, our dedicated teachers completed structured revision for Grades 7 and 9, and we are proud to share that every student who received exam preparation passed their national examinations and ready to move on to the next grade. We also celebrated a major milestone: the graduation of one of our first cohorst sponsored girl students as a nurse, whose journey from interrupted schooling to academic success reflects the true impact of the work we do at Chance4all .
