Project Report | Dec 8, 2024
Young Tailors Receive Brand-new Sewing Machines

By Zachery Onyango | Founder and CEO

Accordig to the Uganda National Population and Housing Census 2024, an astounding 72.3% of the country’s population is aged 30 and below, representing over 33 million people out of the total 45 million. Of this, 51% of the youth aged 18-30 are not in education, employment and training.

Uganda also has the highest Unemployment rate in Subsaharan Africa among the youth and considerig that in 2023,  73.23 % (32,000,000) of the population was reported to be based in the rural areas, this make majority of the population extremely vulnerable and poor. At Development Alert, we are out to support the communities in the areas of access to clean and safe water, economic empowerment, education and environment conseration.

Proividing the different comunity groups with the necessary resources that they need ensures that they improve their living conditions, so many young tailors are struggling to put their skills and knowledge to use becuase of lack of development of the Garment sector that would provide the young talents with employment opportunitie. Worse still, the young and skilled youth are futher disadvanatged by the fact that they lack the necessary resources to enable them acquire the sewing machines and start-up fabrics to enable them start tailoring business for employment and income. These conditions have made the young people hopeless and helpless.

In Uganda, many young female tailors struggle to access quality sewing machines, hindering their ability to earn a sustainable income and improve their livelihoods. Curently, as an organization we have over 100 requests from the young tailors who would love to acquire sewing machines.
Just like the nine young tailors who now have permanent employment and able to earn income, enhanced productivity and efficiency and empowered to become financially independent and contribute to their families' well-being, supporting the tailors is indeed of great impact to both the individuals, their households and the community at large.

A huge thank you to you our generous Donors who have made it poosible for us to support nine young tailors with brand new sewing machines. You have empowered young tailors with brand new sewing machines and start-up fabrics improving their livelihoods and contributing to the reduction of poverty and inequality among rural and disadvantaged communities in Uganda. We look forward to building on this success and expanding our impact in the future.

May God Bless You Abundantly.
