Watersports for SHE on the Island of St. John

By Angela D. Coleman | President

Sisterhood Agenda is gearing up for its SHE: Sisters, Healthy & Empowered retreat to serve girls in the St. Thomas-St. John school district in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This is the first program of its kind in the Virgin Islands.

The SHE retreat will be held in October (date to be determined) after recruitment at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School when school resumes in September. Right now, Sisterhood Agenda has funding from the Rotary of St. John and the Women’s Sports Foundation for SHE activities, along with generous donors like YOU. Thank you for your support!

Our program capacity is to serve ten girls ages 13-17 throughout the rest of the year. If more than ten girls register for the SHE program, Sisterhood Agenda can: 1) raise more funds to accommodate a second session with different girls or 2) hold a lottery to determine which girls can attend.

All watersports activities will be held on St. John in the following locations: Cinnamon Bay, Hurricane Hole, Maho Bay, and the Frank Bay Beach. Sisterhood Agenda is partnering with local watersport agencies to do the following sessions:

  1. Swimming
  2. Stand-up paddle boarding
  3. Kayak races

Sisterhood Agenda will implement the following sessions at its Sisterhood Empowerment Academy (SEA):

  1. Trauma-responsive Sister Circle
  2. SHE: Sisters, Healthy & Empowered activities from the Activity Guide publication
  3. Go, Girl, Go! Activities from the Women’s Sports Foundation curriculum
  4. Yoga on the beach
  5. Mindful meditation and affirmations

It’s great to be a SHE: Sister, Healthy & Empowered!
