Challenge

These poor women use locally made improvised equipments /tools in the shea butter production, which causes injuries, esposure to smoke affects their eyes and skin, slow production/time consuming. They work in an open space under the scotching sun and work is halted by rains. Low skill level has also affected quality of the butter, therefore not competitive in terms of pricing at the market hence low income and inability to support family expenditure. These has rendered the women helpless.

Solution

It will provide good working environment against the weather, with good health and safety. Capacity building through training will improve quality of the shea butter and will attract higher market price and increase rate of sales or demand from buyers. With the improved equipments/tools, production will go up in an easier fashion to relief the women from stress and injuries.

Long-Term Impact

This project will equip and impact 200 poor women with meaningful skills and technology to increase production, generate more income for children education, shelter, health and etc. thereby alleviating poverty. Skills acquired can be transferred to others in and around the community eventually contributing to the development of Tampa Kukuo. A sound working environment will reduce tiredness, fatigue and stress levels. Negative impact of the sun on the women will be reduced.
