Let The World Be Reminded of Maslow Hierarchy Needs

By Jules Higiro | Board member

From the bottom of the hierarchy upwards, the needs are: physiological (Shelter, food and clothing), safety (job security), love and belonging needs (friendship), esteem, and self-actualization.

Some people have forgotten that the bottom presents essential stuff for every person needs to live. People have failed to recall the blessings they have simply because the basic needs are no more a problem to get. For others they still struggling to get food, and sometimes they have not enough. Same people who struggle to get food, have no shelter, thus they are homeless.

The problem is that many people keep looking upward at every level they are and forget to look down where they have come from in order to save those who are still struggling with survival difficulties.

Shelter Them team, regardless of the level they are found, we continue to look downward to lift up others so that they can at least stand steady at the bottom. We invite others to join us for this great cause.

As a result, in 2020 we launched a fundraising campaign in partnership with GlobalGiving and others to build 5 homes. As of now, the houses have been built, but building a home, you have to build a family. We are now building families in 5 homes through 3 programs: education, capacity building and community development. In education Shelter Them has built an early childhood development center where 100 children from poor families go and get 2 meals a day, play, get protection from any harms and learn cultural and modern dances. In capacity building the beneficiaries are trained to manage efficiently their production, personal hygiene and other civic education to enable them gaining confidence, improving their livelihood, good neighborhoods and get informed of the laws and business regulatory trends. In the community development, they are assisted to join social enterprises with intend to do business towards their prosperity.
