Project Report | Sep 15, 2023
5 homes built to vulnerable people changed lives.

By Jules Higiro | Board member

“I’m no longer a bad child, I have changed my behavior”, these are the words of Patrick, one of the children who benefit from the houses built by Shelter Them in the past. He testified to the former Country Director of the NGO about the improvement of his behavior and his commitment to his study. As Patrick, many children in the village would like to live in a better place. The proposed project will entail the construction of five houses, each designed to accommodate vulnerable children and their family. These homes will be equipped with the necessary amenities to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment, including clean water, sanitation facilities, and electricity. Moreover, the project will adopt sustainable building practices to minimize its environmental impact and promote long-term sustainability. The positive impact of previous housing projects on the community is considerable. Families who have benefited from these initiatives have reported significant improvements in their quality of life, through access to water, protection from bad weather and better access to education for the children who now live very close to the school. The new houses will provide vulnerable children with stable and secure homes, enabling them to focus on their education and personal development, while their families receive the support they need to break the cycle of poverty. The construction of five new homes for vulnerable children and their families in Gateko, a Rwandan village represents a significant step towards fostering sustainable development and improving the lives of those most in need. This project not only reflects the dedication of Shelter Them but also underscores the importance of collaborative efforts to create a brighter future for disadvantaged communities. With the continued support and the commitment of all stakeholders involved, this initiative is poised to bring about lasting change for the betterment of the community
