The project overall goal is to promote culture of peace and non-violent conflict resolution among warrying communities using sports-for-peace events as entry point and in support of peace-building efforts.
Kenya is a frequent target of high-profile terrorist attacks, radicalization and recruitment for terror groups. Baringo county's strategic location, cultural diversity, socio-economic and historic background makes it a target for proliferation of small arms and cross-border ethnic tension. Primary actors are marginalized youth from pastoral communities who break family ties in pursuit for economic benefits or just food - increasing their isolation and susceptibility.
Shoot To Score uses citizen journalism, sports and cultural diplomacy as tools to create awareness and sensitizations and address ethnic differences, conflict resolution and community tolerance among major conflicting communities in Baringo county. The project organizes sport tournaments exchanges, hands-on high-quality low-budget film production workshops, educational initiatives and cultural dialogues. Peaceful coexistence is essential for social and economic development.
Harnessing the power of sport-based approaches and cultural diplomacy tools during rising ethnic tensions 'disarm the mind' to bring about cross-cultural understanding and bridge divides. Sport for Development and Peace programs are essential to bring cultures together through shared interests, create positive impressions and help dispel common misperceptions - dialogues and reconciliation.
