2nd Edition of Kick Out Corruption Tournament

The second edition of ‘Kick-Out corruption ‘tournament was held at Bahati playing grounds on 5th september with a total of 12 teams in participation. Teams were branded names based on what the majority of the players would wish to become or do as a professional when they grow up. They were splitted into various professionals eg.Lawyers fc,Presidents fc,Senators fc,Governors fc,MPs fc,Directors fc,Doctors fc,Managers fc,Police fc,Ministers fc,Engineers fc, and Judges fc.The league was coupled with Kick-Out corruption activities conducted by VAP’s Anti-corruption crusaders(ACC) that focused on ethics and integrity as well as values of leadership. The Ministers fc emerged the winners of the league by trouncing Lawyers fc by two goals to nil .Additionally,all participants were awarded with certificates that confirmed them as Anti-corruption ambassadors.A word of wisdom from the secretary of Football Kenya Federation,Nairobi branch Mr. Ragos who was invited as a guest was also in handy to the participants.”I have learnt great teachings on how to stay away from being corrupt even as am focused to become a future leader. Fighting corruption is a responsibility to all of us because this nation is ours.” If we can have corruption as a subject right from the primary schools to the upper levels, then our society would be a great one.”Said, 14 year old David, from the police fc.

VAP's Learning Journey with Global Giving

Global giving has been one of VAP’s old school partners and in May 2010, Mr. John Hecklinger; Global Giving’s chief program officer had an opportunity to visit VAP for the first time. Global giving will forever be remembered for its significant mark in the heart of VAP for being the first partner whose online fundraising funds helped VAP to purchase a second hand Pentium four computer for $ 200 that eventually catapulted VAP from being an office less(briefcase) organization to an office based organization. Seed Grant for Story telling project.
After a successful application, VAP was awarded a seed grant by Global Giving that would go towards collecting qualitative stories from the program participants and the entire community to gauge and evaluate VAP’s programs impact.VAP has previously been doing the story telling collection as one way of backing up its quantitative monitoring and evaluation systems and the awarding of the grant is so timely as the research, monitoring and evaluation crew have been working round the clock to strengthen this section. The stories will be collected by volunteers and be analyzed the research monitoring and evaluation team.

Kick Out Corruption in Calvary Edu Centre

Following the impressiveness and success of Kick-out corruption program in different community centres and schools, the demand of having the program in other schools and centres is rising up on a daily basis. After having completed the program in 4 schools and two community centres, Mr.Joseph Atulo, the head teacher from Calvary educational centre who was visiting Kiragu primary school when the program was on going, happened to get a first hand opportunity to witness kick-out corruption program at Kiragu school. After his witnessing, he enquired from the program implementers if he could have the program at his school as well. Immediately after the completion of the program at Kiragu school, focus shifted to his school at Calvary education centre where a total of 150 student participants aged 12-15 years old both boys and girls are currently participating in the program. Asked why he was interested in the program, this is what Mr. Joseph said “There is great need of this program in this school and given the fact that we are all nurturing future leaders, I think it’s more important they start to know the dangers of corruption right from the tender ages so that when they grow up and become leaders, they can be leaders of integrity who can spur this nation to a greater height as far as development is concerned.” “I feel so proud to be part of the Kick-Out corruption program because my dream is to become a great leader and I know I can’t achieve this if I don’t learn integrity issues and the dangers of corruption. This is something that teachers don’t teach us, but am glad to be able to receive from VAP organization.” Said Naftali Bonzo,a 13 years old program participant from Calvary Educational centre.
