Severe poverty in NE Madagascar affects over 80% of the 300,000 residents in the area and makes it difficult to secure an income. To add insult to injury, residents are not permitted to harvest resources from the protected rainforest areas that they once depended on. As residents turn to illegal harvesting to make ends meet, the consequences are devastating for both people and the environment. One by one, residents are turning to CPALI for a new cash flow through sustainable livelihoods.
CPALI trains and supports rural farmers in new livelihoods that are good for both people and the environment. The new CPALI training center will be the centerpiece for our program. Serving our 300+ members, this comprehensive training center will allow our farmers to learn tree planting, gardening, wild silk production, and silk textile production techniques. This training will open doors for farmers through the development of new skills and access to international markets for their products.
Through our training and support, we offer rural farmers a chance to rise up from the cycle of poverty and improve their own lives with their own resources. While our members' actions are supporting the environment, the income that they earn is going towards better health, education, and nutrition. Together we are building stronger communities, protecting native resources and designing a better way to work with nature. Help us give our members a training center to be proud of!
