Summary

Teenage mothers in Uganda face stigma, poverty, and limited access to education and employment. This project empowers them with vocational skills, business training, and mentorship. Participants learn tailoring, hairdressing, baking, and crafts, then receive starter kits to begin small businesses. By creating income opportunities, the project helps young mothers support their children, gain confidence, and achieve long-term independence, dignity, and stability within their communities.

Challenge

In Uganda, many teenage mothers drop out of school due to early pregnancy and social pressure. Without education or vocational skills, they struggle to find employment and often live in poverty. Stigma from communities, lack of financial resources, and limited access to training worsen their situation. As a result, they depend on others for survival and are unable to provide adequately for their children, continuing a cycle of poverty and limited opportunities across generations.

Solution

This project provides vocational training, mentorship, and life skills support to teenage mothers. Participants are trained in income-generating trades such as tailoring, hairdressing, baking, and crafts. They also receive entrepreneurship and financial literacy education to manage small businesses effectively. Starter kits are provided to help them begin work immediately. Counseling and parenting support are included to build confidence, resilience, and independence for long-term self-reliance.

Long-Term Impact

The project aims to train at least 300 teenage mothers annually and enable a majority to start small businesses. Through practical skills, mentorship, and starter kits, participants improve their income and ability to support their children. The program promotes self-confidence, independence, and social reintegration. Long term, it reduces poverty, improves child wellbeing, and strengthens communities by empowering young mothers to become economically stable and productive members of society.
